Being Prepared

This week I have been watching the devastation happening in the south.  Lynn served his mission in Alabama and spent a bit of time in Tuscaloosa.  So he especially has watched in horror as that town was so severely destroyed by the tornadoes.

I was thinking about how prepared I am if something like that was to happen here in Montana.  We have a bit of food storage but much of what we have has been stored for longer than it's shelf life allows I'm afraid.  That's when I really started thinking about Shelf Reliance and how I could use it to help myself and others be prepared in the event of a major disaster.  We heard on the news last on our way home from Billings that some 1 million people are without power and won't have it restored to them for WEEKS.  There is no phone service or cell phone service in some parts of the area.  If they are without power then they are essentially without food unless they have some form of food storage that is usable.  And that is why I am writing this post.  Shelf Reliance food is usable and it is good.  I had the powdered eggs for breakfast this morning.  And I mixed up some instant milk. I feel passionate about it.  I want my children to have it.  I want my siblings to have it - and their children.  I want my friends to have it.  I don't want us to go hungry if something should happen and we couldn't get to the store or the store was sold out because everyone was scrambling for food.

Part of the reason I feel so passionate about it is because I'm not very good at pushing myself on others.  I'm not good at launching a business - I don't have much business sense - but I know how I feel and how my heart would ache if someone I loved was going hungry because they didn't have anything stored for an emergency.  (If you could get to Montana I would share what I have with you!)
